Child Abuse and Domestic Violence during “Stay Home” Orders

Tragically, for too many children and adults, being out of school or the workplace means being home with an abusive parent or partner. With the current stay home order, this means very dangerous living situations may feel inescapable.

Local police are reporting a dramatic decrease in the numbers of calls related to domestic violence incidents; however, THIS DOES NOT MEAN THE PROBLEM HAS GONE AWAY. The decrease in calls is likely the result of many “mandatory reporters” such as teachers, counselors, etc. not being around to witness the signs of abuse and neglect and make a report. Decreased reporting could also be because people feel they have nowhere else to go given the COVID crisis.

We want you to know there is help available should you or your child be in an abusive situation. The family law courts are open and processing cases in which children or domestic partners are in danger. Restraining Orders, Immediate Danger Orders, Protective Orders related to sexual abuse or stalking, and other judicial actions are available to help keep you and your children safe during this time.

Should you have specific questions or need assistance with this issue, the team at Four Point Legal is prepared to help you. We are open and accepting new clients and cases. For more information on domestic violence victim services, please see this link: Domestic Violence Victim Services
